YouTube, A global phenomenom.
Youtube could be considered as the poster child for web 2.0, allowing users to control their own data and input their own opinions and ideas yet on the other hand it fails to meet the requirements of allowing users to download effectively from the site.
In regards to its history YouTube was founded by by Chad Hurley, Steve Chen and Jawed Karim, who were all early employees of PayPal. It started as a venture funded technology startup after one of its founders found difficulty in sharing videos online using bubble 1.0. The first YouTube video was entitled Me at the zoo, and shows founder Jawed Karim at San Diego Zoo. The video was uploaded on April 23, 2005, and can still be viewed on the site.
Alexa ranks YouTube as the fourth most visited website on the Internet, behind Google, Yahoo! and Facebook.
Pre 2005 there was very little availabe that enabled internet users to successfully share and comment on videos from all around the world, With its easy to use interface, YouTube made it possible for anyone with an Internet connection to post a video that millions of people could watch within a few minutes. The wide range of topics covered by YouTube has turned video sharing into one of the most important parts of Internet culture.
It is a vald example of web 2.0 due to its ability to allow users to control their own viewing content and successfully upload posts and comments about specific videos. Youtube is still a relatively new concept yet its status as a cultural milestone and internet phenomena make it one of the worlds most used websites where almost anyone can use it and almost everyone does use it.
